London Location Information - City of London/Barbican
The oldest part of London with buildings dating back nearly 100 years, the City has been the financial heart of London (and of Europe) foir many years now. The area comprimises only one square mile but is home to the offices of some of the countries leading financial institutions, barristers and insurance companies. It was here in 1666 that the Great Fire of London started in a bakery shop in Pudding Lane. Because of the small size of the area and the cost of real estate, there is very little residents here so, if you're planning to visit the City - which is highly recommended - make sure you do this during the day as there is practically nothing open here in the evening!
To the north of the City of London lies an area known as the Barbican. Very much like the City, the Barbican contains all different types of financial businesses and by 8pm when all the local workers have left the area, is almost like a ghost town. The Barbican is also home to an impressive arts centre.
