In the south west central area of London and just north of the River Thames lies Chelsea, a very affluent area with average house prices of approaching just under £1m. The main thoroughfare, which once was the mecca for trendiness in London, Kings Road, runs through the heart of Chelsea finishing at Sloane Square. Here in the 60's congregated the hippies and in the 70's it was the turn of the punks. There is still a great selection of individual shops and department stores such as Peter Jones. Chelsea retains it's villagey feel and is served well by London's extensive infrastructure of buses and tubes. There are some lovely pubs and excellent restaurants in Chelsea too.
