I chose the hotel because of its proximity to Paddington Station. It's basic, but nice and clean.
This hotel with excellent possibilites and situated in good area with Paddington St. nearby should easily come up to 3 star position just with some small reconstructionwork.
Furniture was terrible and bed/matrasses dirty and almost falling apart.Paint on the walls and some other changes would do a lot.The windows were almost frozen and we had to ask staff to turn on the heatingsystem in the evening when coming in.The water in the shower was frozen in the morning and we had to call staff to get the ice out of the flexcord.
It was a clean, tidy room with a friendly welcoming receptionist. There were no tea-making facilities, which was disappointing, and it was extremely cold :( However, it was December, in the middle of London, and it was cheap.
My online booking had not been entered onto the system when I arrived, which was very embarrassing. I did not enjoy the continental breakfast very much. the Ashley Hotel across the road offers a full english breakfast for the same price and I will go back to them next time as they also provide wi-fi
My girlfriend and I stayed for 8 nights in the Shakespeare Hotel and we found it very clean and well situated. You can go walking to downtown or take the Padington tube station just one block from the hotel.
The price is cheap for the quality of the hotel and we got a discount for paying our reservation through London Discount Hotel. The only disadvantage is that is a little bit noisy because is very close to the tube station.
Overall the accomodation was as I expected, small but comfortable room with ensuite. Daily servicing was good, the room was clean and tidy and the room rate included and extensive continental breakfast. The staff were both very friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated in a very nice location close to Paddington railway station (15 minutes from Heathrow by Express train). Hyde park, Kensington Gardens and several Metro lines all with in 5 minutes walk. Many good restaurants and shops also in close proximity. Good value for money and I have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to others.
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel.
Service was ok en rooms clean.
We certainly will be going back to the dolphin hotel!
It was a noisy place with people running and shouting in the night and the heating was not enough to heat up the room. apart from that the hotel bedroom was clean and bathroom clean the staff where polite.
While this is very basic accommodation the room was clean, the service friendly and the location is great for getting around London. It is located 3 minutes walk from Paddington and 1 minutes walk from a London tour bus. If you are a very light sleeper the train noise can be bothersome. Other than that it does exactly what it says on the tin.
Clean room, nice and friendly atmosphere - very helpful staff. A big "thank you" to the receptionists!
We visited this hotel 26th June 2007 on a short break.
The first impressions were ok as we entered the building, the desk staff were polite, friendly & helpful but that was as good as it got.
The room was clean but like a box, not enough room to swing a mouse let alone a cat!, there was a musty damp smell throughout but i do think that was pumping out from the powerful smelling bathroom.
We were very disappointed to discover that there were NO tea & coffee making facilities & not even a glass for us to have a glass of water!
The bed was like a marshmallow & we both felt like we were being eaten by the matress & coupled with this was the maid bursting in 2 hours before our checkout time to clean! (there were no do not disturb signs available). Lastly we come to breakfast.......maybe we shouldn`t describe it as that. This consisted of barely toasted bread & brown boiled eggs, even though there was a limited menu we still got glaring looks when we returned for seconds of bread!
PS, the hotel is sat on the underground line so be ready to hear the rumble every 10 mins! ENJOY!
Nice friendly staff at the reception, but too many noise in the night from young people/groups..., and a bit poor breakfast. Good place, near to paddington.
Well , of course, the price of the room was among the cheapest for London BUT I must confess that for that money the room was nothing but borderline acceptable. It was overall clean, a bit noisy, the TV set had no remote control and its front panel was missing some of its command buttons. the breakfast was all but good: i was expecting a typical british breakfast and I only got some toasts and a boiled egg...
i am not really satisfied and will never ever consider this hotel again for my future travels to London.
Good quality, and I would definitely come back!
The room was not cleaned properly. A lot of dust behind table and under bed. First night in a room without accsess to fire exit. personal often unkind and not helpful.
Good situation and very good attention. But no was a very good cleanning and maintenance. Any case it was a good experiencie and very probaly I'll return.
I will not recommend this hotel to anyone especially in this heat wave. The management had no consideration about the comfort of their guests and declined to provide a table fan (even though the chap at the reception had his running at full blast). It was impossible to bear the heat in the small room so i immediately checked out and booked into a more considerate hotel that charged the same but had made arrangements keeping their guests comfort in mind
Good place to stay. Well located and functional. Could have had bigger sheets on the beds! Would stay there again.
Ok for the money
I stayed at the Shakespeare & Dolphin Hotel over the weekend of April 7th to 9th. What I was expecting to get, I didn\'t. I got a whole lot more!! The room quality was fantastic complete with a wardrobe, fridge, tv, small writing desk, alarm clock and a beautifully installed and complete ensuite bathroom. The hotel is perfectly located to Paddington rail/tube station, it\'s less then two minutes walk away, and there are many shops and palces to eat in the area. Fantastic service, fantastic facilities, all at a fantastic price! Highly recommended!!!
On the whole stay was pleasant and staff were polite. However, it may be useful to update the interior decor and improve squeaky floorboards. Also found it very difficult to turn off water taps in bathroom. It would also have been nice to have coffee facilities and hairdryer but generally enjoyed my stay.
Really tiny bathroom and beds far too small. Compared with the Comfort Inn I had used previously (for about the same price per night) through London Discount Hotels, this was quite poor.
I think one can find a better value for the money
