London’s most famous landmark, Big Ben is not the clock tower but the large bell which strikes the hour. The accuracy of the clock movement is controlled by the placing of old pennies in the mechanism. The clock tower is not open to the general public. However, it is possible for UK residents to arrange a visit by writing to their MP.

Launched in March 1938, this huge warship had an active career during World War II and played a leading part both in the destruction of the German battle cruiser Scharnhorst at the Battle of North Cape and in the Normandy Landings. She now floats off the south bank of the Thames between London and Tower Bridge, an amazing sight with her heavy armour and massive gun turrets.

The Houses of Parliament are located in the heart of London, Westminster. The Houses of Parliament are the seat of the Government of the United Kingdom. Hyde Park became a Royal Park in 1536. The two most famous features of the Park are the Serpentine, a lake much used for boating and swimming, and Rotten Row, the world famous riding track, which was the first public road to be lit at night in this country. There are almost four miles of horse rides as well as cycle and roller-blading routes.

Kensington Palace has been a royal home for over 300 years and parts of the palace remain a private residence for members of the Royal Family today. Kew Gardens is an internationally acclaimed botanical institution. It's the most celebrated garden in London and probably in Britain. The Monument was erected by Sir Christopher Wren in 1677 to commemorate the Great Fire in London in 1666. The Monument has a height of 66 metres, which is the distance to the house in Pudding Lane where the fire broke out. It is the tallest freestanding stone column in the world. Wellington Arch was erected in 1826 to celebrate the Duke of Wellington’s victories in Napoleonic Wars. Originally the arch served as the northern gate into the grounds of Buckingham Palace, but it was moved later on. Buckingham Palace has been the official London residence of Britain's monarchs since 1837. Dulwich Art Gallery is a home of magnificent collection of paintings from 17th and 18th century, including works by Rembrandt, Poussin, Claude, Rubens, Van Dyck, Murillo, Gainsborough, Watteau and many others. The gallery also serves as a mausoleum: At the rear of the building are the tombs of Noel Desenfans, who was responsible for putting the collection together in the 1970s, and Sir Francis Bourgeois, who bequeathed it to Dulwich Collage.

  The independent Photographers’ Gallery opened in 1971 and is today one of the UK's primary venues for photography. Pollocks Toy Museum takes its name from Benjamin Pollock, the last of the Victorian Toy Theatre printers. Bushy Park in Richmond upon Thames is, with an area of 445 hectares (1,099 acres) the second largest of the Royal Parks.
