It has excellent access to all of London's centre and is very close to Paddington Station. Good value for money budget accommodation for individuals and groups.

Excellent service but wrong room 26/10/2014
this hotel, if you have only little budget is perfect, but if you are given the room downstair please change it, we obtained that room and the subway train passes every 10 minutes, and people bother you at 7 because the dining room is two doors next the room. For the rest the hotel and the service was excellent, i will repeat the experience

Poor hotel 03/10/2014
What I didn't liked: - smelled musty in the room - continental breakfast included? croissants, only butter and jam, milk, coffee, orange juice, and cereals. - a few nights I arrived later at the reception, the guy their was complaining and asking me where I have been!? And he was rude! Positive points: - the cleaning lady was sympathetic and the day guy at the reception too. - it's central

Basic, but not bad! 26/09/2014
I found this place though a last-minute website, for a spontaneous London weekend visit. It has got a central location with good traffic connections, friendly and helpful staff, and no curfew. In spite of the listing as hostel, I found it was rather quiet (I had a single "private" room), which qualified me to have a basic cooked breakfast as well. Considering the low price I paid (by London standards!), I think this was a bargain, and I shall definitely keep the address for the future!

Ideal location 3 minutes' walk from Paddington Station. Simple but quiet, clean and good value for money. The continental breakfast is ample too. Highly recommended.

Shakespeare and Dolphin Hotel 03/08/2013
Noisy, the shower had very low pressure (lower than the tap!), so showering was very uncomfortable. The toast at breakfast was molded (when I gave it back there was hardly any apology!). Room was clean though, and the location was nice.

Problem with shower 12 July 2013
Only two small remarks of our stay, was the shower, which had few, almost no water, and the water varied from hot to freeze without any interference, our room was 403 and we have reported that to the staff, so hopefully it will get fixed soon. We got (unbelievably hot days in London) like 33o celcius, so we misses Air conditioning in the room, but that is unlikely to happen again soon! Excellent location 5min walking to Earls Court station, and staff was always very helpful and polite. I recommend!

Based on the price and location and comparison to other hotels in the area this is the best single room, nice and clean and a comfortable bed - you wont get that anywhere else in Paddington.

Flojo - Not good
Las habitaciones enanas, sobre todo el baño, ínfimo, el desayuno horrible. Las camas no estaban mal, pero en general todo de poca calidad. No volvería.

My Review
We booked a Twin room for one night at Easter. They made a booking error & where trying to give us a Double room instead. After about 15 Mins they agreed to give us two single rooms. One was Ensuite.

Will not be staying here again!
I have booked this hotel 4 times and have always been in the 'Dolphin' area which was pleasant. This time we were placed in the 'Shakespeare' hotel and it was awful! We were on the forth floor which was like being in an attic it had very dangerous narrow and uneven staircases and had no lifts so we were aware that we would have to get our cases back down so did not buy any goods during our stay. Getting them up and down was a nightmare it took two of us and we had packed light! The bathroom smelled of egg the window was broken and banged all night the pillows were hard and there was offensive language written on the wardrobe. The breakfast was completely unedible and after the first morning of experiencing this we eat elsewhere. There was also decorating going on in the room beside so the noise smell and blocking of the stairwell was also an added stress. Very disappointed after last year's experience and will not be staying here again!

Quiet, good public traffic access, reasonable price
Only 2 min. walking distance from Paddington station / underground, in a quiet square. I stay here nearly each time I come to London, the price is ok, and I can leave the luggage there for the check-out day as well. The continental breakfast is good, with waffles and maple syrup!

London
Breakfast excellent ! Front desk person very helpfull, room clean and cared for. Only negatives: very tight shower and sometimes loud noise from nearby rooms at night. ( students! ) Good location from Heathrow and access to rail lines.

Shakespeare and Dolphin Hotel, London
Room was small, but not excessively so, reasonably clean and had the basic essentials. I couldn't get the radiator to work but there was plenty of bedding. The fourth floor was quite a climb (even without much luggage)! Public areas were less clean and showing wear. A very satisfactory continental breakfast.

Accomodation at Shakespeare and Dolphin hotel
The room was not cleaned properly. A lot of dust behind table and under bed. First night in a room without accsess to fire exit. personal often unkind and not helpful.

Evalution
Good quality, and I would definitely come back!

No big comments, not really enthousiastic
Well , of course, the price of the room was among the cheapest for London BUT I must confess that for that money the room was nothing but borderline acceptable. It was overall clean, a bit noisy, the TV set had no remote control and its front panel was missing some of its command buttons. The breakfast was all but good: i was expecting a typical british breakfast and I only got some toasts and a boiled egg... i am not really satisfied and will never ever consider this hotel again for my future travels to London.

Great Surroundings
Nice friendly staff at the reception, but too many noise in the night from young people/groups..., and a bit poor breakfast. Good place, near to paddington.

Just the basics!
We visited this hotel 26th June 2007 on a short break. The first impressions were ok as we entered the building, the desk staff were polite, friendly & helpful but that was as good as it got. The room was clean but like a box, not enough room to swing a mouse let alone a cat!, there was a musty damp smell throughout but i do think that was pumping out from the powerful smelling bathroom. We were very disappointed to discover that there were NO tea & coffee making facilities & not even a glass for us to have a glass of water! The bed was like a marshmallow & we both felt like we were being eaten by the matress & coupled with this was the maid bursting in 2 hours before our checkout time to clean! (there were no do not disturb signs available). Lastly we come to breakfast.......maybe we shouldn`t describe it as that. This consisted of barely toasted bread & brown boiled eggs, even though there was a limited menu we still got glaring looks when we returned for seconds of bread! PS, the hotel is sat on the underground line so be ready to hear the rumble every 10 mins! ENJOY!

Thank you
Clean room, nice and friendly atmosphere - very helpful staff. A big "thank you" to the receptionists!

Basic clean accommodation, friendly service, great location
While this is very basic accommodation the room was clean, the service friendly and the location is great for getting around London. It is located 3 minutes walk from Paddington and 1 minutes walk from a London tour bus. If you are a very light sleeper the train noise can be bothersome. Other than that it does exactly what it says on the tin.

Things that go bump in the night
It was a noisy place with people running and shouting in the night and the heating was not enough to heat up the room. apart from that the hotel bedroom was clean and bathroom clean the staff where polite.

Dolphin Hotel Review
Overall the accomodation was as I expected, small but comfortable room with ensuite. Daily servicing was good, the room was clean and tidy and the room rate included and extensive continental breakfast. The staff were both very friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated in a very nice location close to Paddington railway station (15 minutes from Heathrow by Express train). Hyde park, Kensington Gardens and several Metro lines all with in 5 minutes walk. Many good restaurants and shops also in close proximity. Good value for money and I have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to others.

Clean and Very Well Situated
My girlfriend and I stayed for 8 nights in the Shakespeare Hotel and we found it very clean and well situated. You can go walking to downtown or take the Padington tube station just one block from the hotel. The price is cheap for the quality of the hotel and we got a discount for paying our reservation through London Discount Hotel. The only disadvantage is that is a little bit noisy because is very close to the tube station.

Okay, but not again
My online booking had not been entered onto the system when I arrived, which was very embarrassing. I did not enjoy the continental breakfast very much. the Ashley Hotel across the road offers a full english breakfast for the same price and I will go back to them next time as they also provide wi-fi

Shakespeare and Dolphin
It was a clean, tidy room with a friendly welcoming receptionist. There were no tea-making facilities, which was disappointing, and it was extremely cold :( However, it was December, in the middle of London, and it was cheap.

Really poor shape
This hotel with excellent possibilites and situated in good area with Paddington St. nearby should easily come up to 3 star position just with some small reconstructionwork. Furniture was terrible and bed/matrasses dirty and almost falling apart.Paint on the walls and some other changes would do a lot.The windows were almost frozen and we had to ask staff to turn on the heatingsystem in the evening when coming in.The water in the shower was frozen in the morning and we had to call staff to get the ice out of the flexcord.

Well situated and clean
I chose the hotel because of its proximity to Paddington Station. It's basic, but nice and clean.

Shakespeare & Dolphin
Really tiny bathroom and beds far too small. Compared with the Comfort Inn I had used previously (for about the same price per night) through London Discount Hotels, this was quite poor.

Stay at shakespeare hotel
On the whole stay was pleasant and staff were polite. However, it may be useful to update the interior decor and improve squeaky floorboards. Also found it very difficult to turn off water taps in bathroom. It would also have been nice to have coffee facilities and hairdryer but generally enjoyed my stay.

Superb Value Superb Quality
I stayed at the Shakespeare & Dolphin Hotel over the weekend of April 7th to 9th. What I was expecting to get, I didn't. I got a whole lot more!! The room quality was fantastic complete with a wardrobe, fridge, tv, small writing desk, alarm clock and a beautifully installed and complete ensuite bathroom. The hotel is perfectly located to Paddington rail/tube station, it's less then two minutes walk away, and there are many shops and palces to eat in the area. Fantastic service, fantastic facilities, all at a fantastic price! Highly recommended!!!

JACK (JULY 21,2006)
I will not recommend this hotel to anyone especially in this heat wave. The management had no consideration about the comfort of their guests and declined to provide a table fan (even though the chap at the reception had his running at full blast). It was impossible to bear the heat in the small room so i immediately checked out and booked into a more considerate hotel that charged the same but had made arrangements keeping their guests comfort in mind
