Great hotel 05/08/2013

Just average 04/07/2013
Good location, nice quarter. Our double room and bathroom really small. No extra beds on demand, to our surprise. We were upgraded to a family room for one night, which was more reasonably sized. Reasonable breakfast and in general an acceptable hotel for London standards. We could repeat the experience.

Kensington Close Hotel: retail therapy break
This hotel has recently had a refurb in its reception areas. It is a vast improvement, looks lovely. The bedrooms are very compact, some of which are extremely tight for space, but as you are not in the room much it's not too much of a problem. My daughter and myself have stayed in this hotel for several years now on our trips to London. Its location near Kensington High Street and Kensington Gardens is great. We've had lunch in the park a few times. Breakfast in the hotel is delicious, housekeeping can't do enough for you and the swimming pool is a welcome chill-out at the end of a busy days' shopping. Staff at the reception and concierge desks extremely helpful. Highly recommend for a London break.

Kensington Close - great location, needs attention
The staff at this hotel are kind and very helpful. However, the hotel is not in the greatest shape. In fact, it's being refurbished right now perhaps for that reason, but it was rather a burden for us because of the noise of the construction workers outside even on the weekend. There was no room apparently that was safe from this inconvenience. The hotel's website does announce that, but I still feel that the present conditions do not yield the best value for money, in comparison to other options. The room was comfortable, characteristically small (such are London hotel rooms), but much worse for me - badly protected from the cold. There was a draft from a window that did not close well, and I woke up on the first morning with a sore throat. The air conditioning (warmth) did not work well. Another criticism that I have is the lack of attention to some details, such as tv channels, of which the hotel offers a mere 4. Surely a hotel with hundreds of rooms can offer cable? On the positive side, Kensington Close is in a really great location, and it offers an excellent breakfast.

Hotel was very good as usual, this is the fourth time staying there, breakfast was excellent , only down side this time was the room was not very warm, otherwise will definitely use this hotel again.

VERY DISAPPOINTED
I have to say that besides the pool and the location of the hotel, the accomodation was very disappointing.Very tiny room for 2 people with one chair. Poor heating due to terrible window insulation and major drft onto our faces/bodies in the bed all night long. No heat in the bathroom. Safe in the room doesn't work. Very long wait to have breakfast. No one at reception when calling to get info or extra blankets.Don't plan to use service anymore.

One night stay
The room was bijou but not tiny. It was clean, the linen crisp and the reception staff very friendly. All room facilities worked and it was quiet (5th floor) so we slept well. V convenient for shops and tube.Would return.

Xmas break 2006
Hotel was clean and tidy and very good value for money. The room was small but for the price, expected. The Xmas day lunch was really good with delicious seafood starters, would recommend this. Staff were always helpful and friendly.

Bargain Break
Just returned from one night at a lovely hotel, definately worth the money we paid for two rooms. Continental breakfast included and kept us going all day.Very close also to the nearest tube station. Only fault our double room was cold on arrival as heating only worked when we upped the air conditioning control in the room, but it soon warmed up.

good job for such a busy period of a year!
given the duration, it was a very nice experience..breakfast was great, front desk personal solid. But the only thing is the size of the room...for a twin size bed it was very small. Great gym and pool...thank you and you will see me again..

Kensington Close Hotel
The hotel was clean and the accomodation was adequate, our room was quite small though. It wasn't bad value for money although I probably would have been disapointed (value wise) if I had paid much more. Finally our room was not ready at 2pm, we turned up at 2:45pm and were told that it wouldn't be ready for approximately another hour!! Not a good start. Despite all of this, I would probably stay there again if the situation ever arose.
Chris Wilks, United Kingdom
Not too bad!!
Small room but good enough if you don't intend to spend too much time in it. Clean though. One more thing: why being restricted in the choice of the breakfast: continental OR english??
Pierre Gaillot, United Kingdom
Mediocre service
The bell boy forgot the key room in his pocket. Had to go down and have it replaced at the reception. Staff at the reception are cold. Overall not too pleased with this hotel.

Quie adequate
Room rather small but clean with comfortable bed and adequate en-suite and tea-making facilities. Quiet location, friendly and efficient service and a good English breakfast with no hassle.

Check in & Health Club
One of our rooms wasn't ready until 4pm to check in. The health club pool had bits floating in and the spa didn't work but the hotel rooms and bar and breakfast were good.
Joanne Longhurst, United Kingdom
Small rooms but excellent location
The rooms were perhaps not as large or luxurious as they appeard on the hotel website, but they were clean and comfortable, which is the main thing. Hotel location is brilliant and, although chaotic at times, it was great to get breakfast included in the room rate. The Oasis gym is excellent, but would have been even better if it was free for hotel guests to use. All in all a good hotel that I would recommend.

Great Location - Good Value for Money
accommodation facilities. Rooms are a bit on the small side but nothing unmanageable. Only negative about the hotel is the breakfast, which no-one in our party of 4 were particularly impressed with.

Kensington Close
G'day! Our stay in the Kensington Close was ok. The only things not so nice were (are): - the breakfast (the location/room, service); - the room, the bed and the towels all smelled very very bad (smoke from cigarettes); that was very disgusting. But the people on the reception and the concierge were all very nice and polite. The Hotel is perfectly situated, that was fantastic. Thank you. Best regards, Jsabelle Martin

Very good staff. Clean room. Some decoration looking tired. Very dissappointed at the pool and jacussi being shut as this hotel was especially chosen for its Spa facilities.

Kensington Close Hotel
The hotel was nice and clean. It has a 'shabby chique' look. Car park was convenient, we were charged less than the full rate. We didn't use the spa as we begrudged paying an extra £10 (as hotel guests) for the use of it. The safe in the room didn't work (like most of the safes at reception), but we were provided with an alternative. Unfortunately the airconditoning made a lot of noise making it extremely difficult to sleep (and it was a very warm night), hence the low rating.

Pleasant clean comfortable hotel
Pleasant, clean, comfortable; however double room a little on the small side. TV only showed terrestrial channels; you had to pay for anything else so no world news etc. Wi-Fi is available in the rooms but also costs extra. Breakfast excellent.

Small but cosy rooms
Stayed here for one night in twin room but there was no space between the beds, however room was clean & tidy with all basic amenities. Breakfast is excellent although need to arrive early to avoid queues. Great location for tube station.

Kensington Close Hotel, London.
Friendly staff and good breakfast also close to the underground tube rail system. Will not be using the hotel again because for the price the double room was the smallest I've ever come across in many years of travelling to 4 star hotels.

Worst Hotel ever
bed was moving (not stable on the floor) internet was so slow until i lost the complete connection. old out dated furniture and the bathroom was not clean properly. i would definitely not stay there again.

Kensing ton Close Hotel Jan 2006
When needed they were very accommodating, however, they were not aware of my diatery needs even if I specifically put that down as extra information when booking the room. I would have preferred to book a hotel with a slightly bigger room and with a more women friendly bathroom.

Worth considering
My stay in this hotel was excellent. Rooms, hotel, bar, health suite, etc were all excellent. The only minus point would be I would not recommend the Continental breakfast - upgrade to the English! Don't let it put you of though.

The good the bad and the ugly
The hotel was easy to find and the staff were courteous and helpful. Rooms were clean and good value The only downside to the hotel was the carvery. The meals were only lukewarm. We couldn't face dessert as it looked most unappetising.

My stay FEB 24th to 28th 2006
Dear Madam/ Sir I intended to stay at the Kensington Close because I am looking for an accommodation which I could use for my customers on a London trip. Well, I certainly will overthink this. Reasons: The breakfast room is badly organised. 08:30-09:30 is the strongly preferred time of hotel guests. Supervisor of the hotel should therefore make sure that enough people are cleaning the tables, as there are enough tables for all guests but these are not cleaned in due course. Therefore en enormous quieu developes and causes misunderstanding as empty tables can be seen. They simply have to be cleaned. There is enough personnel in the hotel. This is not organised efficiently. Furthermore, there is a concierge at front entrance. I do not know why the hotel has these as they were not able to help me with my luggage when checking out. Even when I needed some small change they were not able to help me or advise me where to go. In fact, the tone of two was more than inadequet. The hotel staff consists of a large amount of different nationalities. Therefore it should be essential that these are able to communicate to the customer and of course with each other. Communication should be kept simple but sufficiently enough. This is not the fact. Also, I do not think that it gives the right impression and does not really help when the hotel assistant manager gets angry in the breakfast room with the staff infront of guests, Tuesday 28th of Feb. And, the hotel needs renovating in few places. All in all, I picked this hotel because of the spa and gym area. I enjoyed the pool. The rooms are very small and the bath and shower area needs also some paint and tiling. A few staff memebers were very helpful and friendly but as remarked ONLY A FEW. Last but not least-and I feel this is one of the worst: I was very irritated about the overchargement for breakfast. I booked a room with breakfast. After check-in I was told that I can only receive a simple continental breakfast. I was charged pounds 3.99 extra for some scrambled eggs, toast and a sausage. That is an absolute rip-off and inacceptable! Nobody was able to explain this to me as my booking viewed room with breakfast. The regular charge for breakfast is 9.95 and full breakfast 12.95. A difference of 2 pounds. But as mentioned I was charged 3.99. Why? For what? For waiting for a table. And eventually receiving it in a dark corner of the room? As perviously mentioned-badly organised. Yours faithfully Mel Raven

The hotel was great and suited our needs as a base. It's closeness to the tube and general facilities made our stay in London excellent.

Good hotel
The hotel was fine, close to the tube station, and very clean. The breakfast was excellent!

OK Hotel but bad hospitality
The room is ok, size is a bit small. Breakfast was very bad with only 3 choice of breads & coffee or tea. The staff is very cool and impolite.

Hotel very good and great facilities! My room was perfectly fine. However, my colleagues room smelled of smoke (non-smoking room too) and was below average. Facilities great, some rooms may need attention.

16-19 June 2006
stayed 3 days, room not cleaned on any of these days and we had to ask for clean towels every day. Room fused when hairdryer put on and we had no electricity for 10 hours even though we were told it would be fixed within a few minutes! A kettle didn't work - bathrooms very small and not ideal for anyone other than a child! overall, would not stay there again....

Fantastic location, a stone's throw away from the High Street and the Underground. Staff were always courteous and eager to please. Accommodation comfortable, bathroom slightly shabby in appearance and small, but clean. Good choice of food for breakfast. Will definitely be using this hotel again.

disappointing!
The room was tiny and some piece of bread or biscuits were on the chair! The radiator was cover with dust and half on the tiles below the sink were broken. The continental breakfast was quite good though but the price of the room is ridiculous for what you get! I won't go back to that place!

Anneversery trip
From booking to leaving the hotel was a great experience. This is the second time we have used LDH and the Kensington close. Both were very good,LDH gave a top service with no trouble at all ,The hotel is still excellent and we will be going back next year for value and the good service. The bad bit the hotel needs to sort out the bathroom grouting but that said it is not a new building. I would recomend this to most people not the Ritz but in the top of its class. Have fun there.
