Excellent location and efficent service. However they did not have our reservation details and as a result our room wasnt as good as we had expected and only a twin bed was left when we had requested a double so that was a little disappointing.

Review Accommodation

The hotel is very conveniently situated for Covent Garden, theatres and a varied choice of restaurants within easy walking distance. The room was clean, and had all the facilities required for an overnight stop. All in all it represents good value for money.

A mouse running in the restaurant was reported to staff on Wednesday evening. Breakfast was not of the standard we have experienced in the past. Staff seemed blase.

Improvement!

 8/10

Having stayed at the SP several times in the past it was indeed pleasing to experience the general improvement of the overall quality after the refurbishment. Cleanliness OK, and rather importantly the soft bed mattress was comfortable. Breakfast was also OK,  both the venue and the service - As you say yourself: "Good value for money". I would like to come back soon.

A comfortable & pleasant stay

 8/10

The Strand Palce staff were welcoming & helpful. We were able to check in early and our room was spacious & comfortable. The Radiator did not work but we were provided with a heater very quickly. Room sevice was fast too - we ordered sandwiches at 10.30 p.m. and they arrived at 10.45 p.m. The Corridors on our (5th) floor were a little shabby but the main foyer and restaurants were smart.

JANET TUCKETT, United Kingdom

Good room, poor breakfast

 8/10

The room was good and clean. Only the quality of breakfast was not good at all. Many things were not there anymore, even 30 min before end. Only one kind of jam, only canned fruits, etc.

Eva Wittocx, Belgium

Service

 8/10

A broken light bulb blew the fuse in my room at 10 o'clock in the evening. Within a quarter of an hour a service engineer fixed the fuse and the bulb. All of this was handled manner of factly and friendly. That's what I call service. In the Netherlands probably nothing would have happened till next morning. Thanks.

I've stayed before at the Strand palace and it can be a bit of a cattle market, but this time it was calm, the staff were lovely and the single room clean and bright and offers fantastic value for money.

OK

It was alright clean and warm, however, had to cue for along time just to get checked in. Also it would be nice if there was a hot/warm breakfast served e.g. scrambled eggs and toast.

Strand Palace Hotel

 4/10

I am sorry to say this, but the quality of the hotel accommodation at the Strand Palace nearly managed to ruin my birthday. The room was clean, but in dire need of modernisation, noisy and cold; the only good thing was that my birthday champagne stayed nice and chilly! The service was not friendly, and we were woken up in the morning by housekeepers, who were seemingly unaware that there was someone staying in the room. Fortunately the hotel offered breakfast to be delivered to the room (for a £5 surcharge of course), but they failed to mention that the supplement had to be paid on delivery - thus leading to us running around in our nightwear trying to find some cash to pay the room service gentleman with, in full view of anyone passing along the corridor. I will never stay at the Strand Palace again, and will warn everyone I know against it; although central and convenient for those wishing to frequent a theatre, the hotel offered little value for the money.

This is a good location and is ok for a few nights - room was quite small but adequate for purposes - check in/out good - breakfast was prettty good as well - considering number of rooms etc. - only disappointment was in the bar where it was understaffed difficult to get served was ignored and barperson not friendly

This hotel is one of the largest in the city centre yet all the staff was courteous, friendly and efficient. As travel regularly to London to visit several shows over two or three days its location is an ideal place to stay well within walking distance of all the west end theatres.

A Good Value

 8/10

After reading some fairly poor reviews on another site, I was a little worried about my pre-booked stay. So I was very presently surprised that my experience was quite good. I got a very good rate. My single room turned out to be quite small, but was more than adequate for my 3 night stay. The room was clean and comfortable, with a large bathroom with copious and instant hot water. In the room was a single bed, a closet and a desk. A TV with cable and pay per view films. There was a hot water pot and tea and coffee. A hair dryer and a trouser press. I had a large window, so the room was bright. I was further delighted to find that my room included a complimentary full English breakfast, saving me even more money. The location is terrific if you plan on seeing theatre. There were three theatres within a one minute walk. Dozens of other theatres are easy walking distance. Several Tube stops are nearby and it's perhaps a five minute walk at most to the Covent Garden stop with direct trains to/from Heathrow. Directly across the street is the famed Savoy Hotel, so you know you are in good company. Make no mistake, this is not a five star hotel. There are patches of threadbare rugs in the halls, and you may encounter sheets or towels in the halls during the day as the maids ply their trade. However, the staff is very friendly, and I believe I got an excellent value for my money. I would definitely book this hotel again.

A price-whorthy hotel in the very centre of London, just opposite Savoy, close to Charing Cross and Covent garden. The somewhat higher price is compensated by the closeness to the centre.

Initialy we were put in a room on the old smoking floor which was quite smelly but without any fuss the staff were helpful and happy to move us to another room when asked. The room was small and reasonably basic but clean with fresh clean towels and bedding. Hotel was adequate for a stay of a few nights the location was excellent just around the corner from Covent Garden and Leicester Square and a 10 minute stroll to the London eye.

The Strand Palace appears to be undergoing renovations. The lobby area is lovely, the floor and room were clean, but a little shabby. Strand

 10/10

We were delighted with our accommodation. Last time we had a very small room with a tiny little window at the back. Six floor this time looking over the Strand but no noise at all. It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The service was excellent, it was extremely busy with tour parties, especially at breakfast time, but the restaurant manager remained polite and helful throughout. Also the desk staff were courteous, and helpful giving us advice when we needed it. Yes definately stay there again, and very close to all amenities. Thank you. David and Jeanie Wood

Overnight stay at Strand Palace Hotel

 6/10

The location was excellent, close to theatres and shops. I was a bit disappointed by the size of the room - rather small. There was a long queue for breakfast at 9.15 on Sunday morning, which was a bit daunting. However the staff did manage to move people through quickly.

review

 8/10

You may recall that we were overbooked at the strand and ended up in the Cumberland hotel. The hotel was very nice, but on reception they had no record of our booking and took 1/2 hr to sort out, then on checkout tried to recharge us for the room this took another 15 mins to sort out, so for future reference please be aware. We did have a sting in the tail as the local NCP car park cost us £30 to say overnight, this was even with the Hotel validating the card, again not very nice.

When More Meant Less

 6/10

Our previous stays at the Strand Palace Hotel have been entirely satisfactory efficient service at reception and on check-out, and rooms that have been clean, comfortable, well-equipped and, above all, not noisy. This time was different. A standard room such as we usually book was not available, and we opted for a club double at £20 extra. For this we got the bonus of a couple of bottles of mineral water, and some computing equipment that we did not need. On the downside, the room (426) was extremely noisy. It gave onto a narrow side street between tall buildings, which acted as an amplifier for the sound of anyone passing down it and there were plenty who did. There was also traffic noise all night from the nearby main road. The double glazing made no difference at all to the sound, and should be replaced urgently.  This was decidely inferior to the standard rooms we have had before, and not worth the higher price. On the plus side, we had (as on previous occasions) an excellent meal in pleasant surroundings at Johnsons brasserie in the hotel. We particularly appreciated, as did our American guests, the service of our waitress Isabel.

OK yet mind the small rooms.

 6/10

The single rooms are tiny - hardly enough room to change your mind! The hotel and its rooms had a rather faded and dingy look, paintwork, windows etc. Good lifts, though. Bathrooms functional but not luxurious. A bit overpriced for what you get- like a lot in London.

Review of Strand Palace Hotel London

 6/10

The accomodation was adequate given the amount of time I actually spent in the hotel. However, there are areas of the hotle (including the rooms and lobby) where guests are allowed to smoke. This makes the entire hotel, including non-smoking rooms smell fusty and smokeydue to the ashtrays that are scattered around the place. I think public areas, including the lobby should be made non-smoking. I cannot review the food in the hotel because both times I tried to take breakfast in the restaurant, there was a queue about 20 deep just to get into the restaurant!

Helen Cook, United Kingdom

Difficulty booking for single occuppancy

 6/10

I wanted to find a hotel for one person. I found out I couldn't chose a double bed for a single person. I ended up with a tiny room with a small bed, probably the worst room in the hotel, which was nice. I wished I had got somewhere like Travel Inn where the price is per room and not per person. Your site would benefit from clarification on this point. Cheers

Short break in the Strand

 8/10

Just returned from a three night stay at the Strand Palace. Rooms typical london - clean but a little on the small size. My room had no air-con so could have been uncomfortable in mid-summer. Hotel quiet for having so many rooms. Continental breakfast buffet style and adequate. Staff fiendly. Location - stunning !! 100 yards from Covent Garden

Anthony Burn, United Kingdom

A great "home" away from home!

 10/10

Strand Palace Hotel is a large hotel with a high standard. It is perfectly situated in walking distance from all the theaters, Soho, Oxford Street, Covent Garden and the Thames. On my earlier visits to London (staying in other hotels) I have spent a lot of time (and money) on the underground. From Strand Palace Hotel I have been able to see the streets, parks and places of London instead of feeling that London is a big railway station. The service at the hotel is excellent, the food is good and the rooms are clean and nice. Allthough the hotel is situated close to London's night life, there were no disturbing traffic - or human noise during the nights.

The Smallest and Hottest

 4/10

The room was clean and it was good to have tea and coffe facility BUT it was the smallest and hottest, most humid room I have ever experienced and so I struggled through the most claustrophobic and uncomfortable night I have ever had. There was a de-humidifier in the room but 1. it seemed to make no difference and 2. it was very very noisy. The windows only opened slightly and all the surrounding rooms above had a direct view into my room and bed so I had to keep the curtains drawn thus blocking off what little air I had from the partially opening window. Never would I stay there again. I expereinced one worse hotel once therefore I score the rating of 2. For the same price I stayed in the Hisperia in Victoria two months ago - there is no comparison.

Practical accommodation

 6/10

A functional hotel, located in good position. The smallest rooms are really rather more like 2 star rather than 3 star. Long queues to check in; but the manager was quick to spot the problem and accelerate the process. The breakfast room was very dark, though this may have been a temporary problem

Philip Andrews-Speed, United Kingdom

Let's not go down the Strand

Once you get past the foyer, the interior of the hotel has a tired look about it. The hotel room, whilst clean, smelled like old fruit and the bedclothes looked worn. This is not somewhere I would choose to stay again.
